Vintage stuff goes on Etsy and the other stuff goes on Facebook for now.  As soon as covid is over I’m going to have a front yard sale and see how that goes.  I think so far we are in and around the 2-300 dollar mark generated as revenue, but if we take into consideration other costs like gas mainly and just buying stuff like a photo booth, the website domain, flatsome theme for this website and the 3 Facebook ads we are probably still profitable but barely.  I realize it will take time but we are gung ho to continue the effort.  We just finally got the wordpress site backups going so we can begin to look into building the actual multivendor shop.  It looks like we will be using the wcfm plugin for that as the dokan one although is solid it seems they don’t have as many features I want.  We have 4 youtubes up now and another one rendering, which seems to take forever.  Also not helping that situation is my laptop acting up and will have to go into the shop for repairs. Something with chrome not wanting to fire up properly.  I thought I fixed it myself but it worked for about a 2 day stretch and then began to fail again.  Work work work but all fun!

Thrift Hunting For Serious $ Finding the Holy Grail of PEZ and Star Wars Collectors https://tcstrinketstreasures.com/thrift-hunting-for-serious-finding-the-holy-grail-of-pez-and-star-wars-collectors/ Tue, 04 May 2021 01:49:30 +0000 https://tcstrinketstreasures.com/?p=279 Being a fairly New Thrift Hunter and encouraged from watching youtube videos of others doing thrift hunting as a past time, I thought I would give it a whirl seeing as I didn’t have much to do at the time with covid lockdown stuff going on in my area.So I wound up on Facebook Market Place one morning looking over all that was for sale.My eye caught an add that reminded me of my childhood and the PEZ candy dispensers I use to buy and enjoy eating the candies from. They were cheap for a kid to buy and you got a little plastic toy that I have no recollection of what happened to them.I likely stepped on it by accident and they went in the garbage, or it got thrown out at some point, being considered worthless.
Well staring at this Facebook ad I was drawn in to have a look at it so I clicked on it and there they were, over 100 PEZ of all sorts and types. From Mickey Mouse to Spiderman and many of my favorite cartoon characters and super hero types old and new.Darth Vader and Obi Wan, Yoda you name it and it seemed to be there.I had no idea there were so many types of PEZ.There were even special event PEZ and automated PEZ with this collection having that Marvin the Martian feeding you a PEZ from his spaceship.I have it for sale right now on my Etsy https://www.etsy.com/your/shops/TCsTrinketsTreasures/tools/listings if you want to go buy it.Anyways I couldn’t help myself, I had to go buy this collection up.It was owned by a lady probably in her 40’s.She wanted 40 dollars for it marked down from over 100 originally.I also noticed it was listed on there for several weeks and no one wanted it.So I sent off a message and offered 20 Canadian bucks for it.My plan was to buy the whole lot and sell it as a collection on my Etsy store.I waited for a few hours… no reply from her.Dam I thought I guess she doesn’t want to sell it so low.I totally forgot about it for the rest of the day and signed back in later that evening and bingo she sent a message and accepted my offer. We exchanged messages on how I pick up and pay for it with the covid thing going on and it basically boiled down to leaving money under the mat at her front porch and the collection would be sitting in a box on the porch.Off I drove next morning about a 20 minute drive arriving at my destination of PEZ heaven!.I put on my mask and walked up to the porch and there they were, all nicely bagged in plastic containers for the open ones and many were still in their original packaging with likely stale candies. I have a pin I did of Inspector Clouseau from the Pink Panther series on this board if you want to see one.But here is the unbelievable spectacular thing way over and above anything I ever expected.Beside the box on the porch was a giant PEZ card with an array of Darth Vader Characters.I looked over the card front and back and wondered about it.I certainly was going to take it as it was part of the PEZ collection but I wasn’t sure what it was and what value it might have.
Arriving back home I joined a Facebook PEZ group to discover my bounty and what it might fetch if I sold it as a grouping or individually.I discovered that single PEZ on their own are worth a few American bucks and some a little more the older they get.Mine were mostly 1991 vintage as can be found with a little research online as to where they are made by patent dates and numbers on the stems of the body. The large PEZ Star Wars Darth Vader array card was another story.I ask the admin of the PEZ Facebook Group about it and she led me to someone else who had one identical to mine or so I thought. But wait there’s more oh so much more to this story.
So I contacted the lady I bought the collection off and she told me how she came into possession of this card. She explained she went over to Austria to visit family as a younger girl in the 1991 era and here Grandparents took her on a tour of the PEZ factory because she had a few she had brought with her and they saw that she liked them.On the tour they were watching how the PEZ packaging was being processed and there was that card she obtained. The guy who was processing it looked it over and was throwing it out because the print registration was off on it from the shear lines.Being a little girl at the time she asked the tour guide if she could have it and he obliged seeing as it was being thrown in the garbage. She brought it back to Canada with her and it sat in her collection for all those years.
So back onto Facebook and onto joining another group, this time a Star Wars Collector group I showed off my prize and explained how it was obtained and that it was a miss print error one.Wow !!!I got private messages for 100, 200, 300,on and on,I stopped at 2000 and decided I better get some more insight into this card from somewhere else.
I’m subscribed on Youtube to a channel that has a number of thrift hunters involved and I explained my situation.I have a one off item. There is no other in the world like it because it’s a miss print.Kind of like those coins you get every so often that rise in value because they are struck wrong.Pennies can be worth thousands of dollars.
So how much is this card worth?Time will tell… perhaps 10,000, 50,000, 100,000 or 1 million ?
For now its in a safe place, but I may just list it for sale on Etsy store TC’sTrinketsTreasures. I’ll probably make a regular pin for it or maybe two later on… go look see on my Pinterest at https://www.pinterest.ca/veeteethrift
